Track any extension. There is no ownership check.

VSXRank is a rank tracker, not a publisher portal. The Marketplace publisher site has no API we can call to ask “is this person the publisher of foo.bar.” Open VSX namespace ownership is a flag on the listing, not a login we can reuse. So we do not pretend.

Anyone with an account can put any extension from either registry on a watchlist. That is the whole access model.

Mine or Watching

Each watchlist row has a role:

• Mine — you say you publish it. Alerts default on. Pinned competitors are compared against this row.
• Watching — same charts, same keyword ranks, alerts default off. Use it for a rival, a category you are entering, or an extension you might acquire.

The role is self-declared. It only changes defaults. It is not shown as a badge on the public catalog, and we do not check it against publisher_verified on either registry. What verified means is a property of the galleries, not of your VSXRank account.

One watchlist slot covers both registries for the same publisher.name. If the Open VSX twin appears after you added the Marketplace listing, it shows up on the same row. You are not charged two slots for one extension.

Keywords and competitors

Per watchlist extension you add keywords (crawled daily on both registries, median of three Marketplace samples, window 1 to 1,000) and you pin competitors. Competitors are other extensions, suggested from the stored search results for those keywords, or found by publisher.name. They do not consume watchlist slots.

Plan limits count four things: watchlist extensions, keywords per extension, competitors per extension, refreshes per day. History is not a limit. It starts on 5 September 2026 for every extension we have seen, including people who sign up next year, including after a cancellation. We crawl the catalog whether or not you pay.

Every plan includes both registries and the full rank window. There is no free tier; the public site and the live demo are the free surface. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day trial.

What this is not

• It is not a directory for developers. The landing feed and category boards exist so a publisher can see the market, and so search engines have something unique to index. They are not the product.
• It is not a way to “take over” a public page. v1 public extension pages are the catalog row plus history. Structured extras on a listing you publish, if they happen, come later and will require proof of control over the linked repository — still not a form that says the listing is yours.
• It is not Marketplace private stats. Installs, downloads, ranks and ratings are what the public APIs already return. We add the daily delta, the 1,000-deep keyword window, Open VSX, and the years of history the galleries themselves do not keep.
